Net Worth Update & Comments on Market

Here is my net worth update for both February and March 2020. My investment took a big hit due to the recent market downturn, but I was able to see all my Amazon shares at near the peak back in February. I have since put all those cash back into the market, picking up some stable blue-chip stock on the way down.

There is a lot of fear and panic going on right now, my advice for those that are in the market is to stay put and look for opportunities to buy. There is currently a lot of good companies that are trading at a deep discount right now, some of these company have a good track record of safe and reliable dividends. As the saying goes, "Be greedy when others a fearful."

Neighbour Joe - August 2019 Net Worth

Here is the net worth update for August 2019. The market is very volatile this year, which has caused my net worth to fluctuated quite drastically on month by month basis. Overall, my monthly employment income is still the most significant contributor to my net worth increase. I have also started tracking my rental property in my net worth. I've had the property for a year now but never got around to putting it into my spreadsheet. The rental property is a partnership between my parents and me. They didn't have the income to qualify for a mortgage, so I took on the debt while they put down the equity. Cost and profit are shared accordingly.

Also reached a small milestone this month, this is the first month since I started this journey that my liquid assets, which is all my assets minus real estate and pension, is over $100,000. My next milestone will be when my liquid assets become greater than my liabilities. These milestones are important for motivation and momentum purpose.

Neighbor Joe - Passive Income November 2018 - $1,704/Year

About a year ago I started to track my passive income as another way to track my progress. I like tracking passive income because it shows me an instant result of my investment. My brokerage account with TD has a very useful feature that shows the projected income for the next 12 months as shown in the screenshot below.

I have done some reshuffling of my stock holdings which help increased my passive income from dividends. It is now at$1,704/Year or $142.05/Month. Not a lot but it is still a tax-free passive income. What will you do with an extra $142 a month?

My net worth went up since I last posted not because of I any exceptional return from my investment. It was mostly due to aggressive mortgage payment as well as putting money from my monthly pay into my TFSA. The key is to be disciplined with your spending and aim to money aside each month towards building your wealth.

Neighbour Joe - February 2018 - $1,577.33/Year Passive Income

All, here is the latest update of my passive income. I have recently purchased more shares of Enbridge since the price has been dropping making it a attractive buy. The row with the green highlights indiciates that those are in USD. The total amount is show in CAD here. I used a 1.25 exchange rate for my calculation. I've also added a column to show much return I am currently getting from my book value of my investment. For those that don't know, the book value is the amount that was actually invested and will not change with market price. Have a nice winter day.

Happy New Year. Although this month is the beginning of a new calendar year it is not the end of the fiscal year therefore I won't be doing a year end summary till April.

December Net Worth: $300,758.74
Current Net Worth $303,480.88 (+0.9%)

Like a few net worth updates in 2017, the reason for my increase this months beside my usual salary income is from my investment portfolio. I re-consolidated all my marijuana investment and put it all into Canopy Growth (TSX: WEED). In the the last two weeks of 2017 the stock price jumped 48% giving me a unrealized gain of $3,540. I sold some of my holdings and realized about $350 gain on the last trading day of 2017. Hope all of you had a good holiday season and may all your financial goal be met in 2018.

Neighbor Joe - Passive Income Update

Back in October, I posted my passive income breakdown as another method to track my wealth building progress.October Passive Income. Here is the updated spreadsheet, so now instead of receiving $1024/year I have increased my passive income to $1463/year.

In the past few months, I invested more into Enbridge since they were trading at a price that yields about a 5% return for dividends. I also did some rebalancing of my portfolio, I sold some of my Shopify Shares and invested into MasterCard. Next year I am going to try and double my passive income. Come back and check often to see how I go about doing it.
